Applied Codeology Practice Test

The minimum vertical clearance required for overhead service drop conductors from roofs is established to ensure both safety and accessibility. A clearance of 8 feet 6 inches is mandated to prevent any potential hazards associated with electrical lines coming into close proximity with people, structures, or other objects. This height ensures that service drop conductors are adequately elevated to avoid accidental contact while also allowing for maintenance and the safe movement of personnel and equipment below them.

In contrast, options indicating lesser clearances, such as 3 feet 6 inches or 5 feet 6 inches, do not provide sufficient height to meet safety standards and could lead to dangerous situations if individuals or equipment were to come into contact with the electrical conductors. The option for 10 feet 6 inches exceeds the required minimum and is not necessary, making it impractical for standard installations where the specific regulation has been set at 8 feet 6 inches. Thus, this height is recognized as the regulatory minimum for overhead service drops specifically from roofs to ensure safety and compliance with established electrical codes.
